The issue that I have chosen is called pollution and it is everywhere. Pollution relates to environmental sustainability because it affects the environment’s ability to function properly. Pollution is the presence in or introduction into the environment of a substance or thing that has harmful or poisonous effects. It is all over Los Angeles and a lot of it is caused by traffic and cars driving around everywhere. There is a lot of traffic in LA due to large amount of cars driving all around the city which causes pollution from the exhaust from cars. It comes from the burning of fossil fuels, energy plants, and vehicles which releases carbon dioxide into the atmosphere causing climate change. Even indoors areas can become polluted from cooking and smoking. Some industrial processes can emit particulate matter, such as sulfur dioxide, carbon monoxide and other toxic gases. Some short term effects involve can irritate the eyes, nose and throat and cause upper respiratory infections, headaches, nausea and allergic reactions. Long term exposure can cause chronic respiratory disease, lung cancer, heart disease and can lead to significant climatic changes that can have far reaching negative impacts on food, water and ecosystems. 
I hope to impact the community and show the dangers of pollution and spread awareness of its dangers. I want the average person to become aware of what driving all the time can lead to if we don’t do something about it. Maybe instead of taking the car to a couple blocks away from home they can think twice and walk or take a bike there. I will send a message with my chime and hopefully make people reconsider some of their decisions that involve contributing to the problem.
The materials i have chosen are soda cans, gum wrappers, bottle wrappers, a paint can lid, tissue paper, pieces of playing card . The plastic items on my chime are to show that plastic can be harmful to the environment. It affects affects wildlife and their habitat and even humans. The soda cans require a process that creates water, air and soil pollution and I added them to my chime because there many aluminum cans that collect in landfills and beach areas. The tissues papers represent the air pollution in the city and steps need to be taken to reduce the problem of air pollution. I mainly chose trash related items because trash is a major component of pollution and it is a major problem that exists today in our society.
