Light Pollution

Environmental sustainability is the rates of renewable resource harvest, pollution creation, and non-renewable resource depletion that can be continued indefinitely. If they cannot be continued indefinitely then they are not sustainable. Sustainability is what has been keeping the resources available to the human population. It's economic development meets the needs of all without leaving future generations with fewer natural resources than the ones that we currently have present.
Light pollution has increased significantly within the last 40 years due to the excessive use of street lights, advertising lighting, and security lighting. Although it does keep us safe, it has been preventing scientists from observing and studying stars and other astronomical objects. Although we can take measures to reduce light pollution, it may be difficult to achieve.
I have chosen light pollution as my issue because the inappropriate or excessive use of artificial light – known as light pollution – can have serious environmental consequences for humans, wildlife, and our climate. This can cause harms such as glares, skyglow, light trespass and clutter, all negative effects of the excessive use of light. Light pollution is especially visible in areas such as the city where it is dependent on tall buildings that use lights for businesses, concert venues, and etc. I live in Downtown LA, where Staples Center is located so every time there is a concert or an event, there are excessive use of lights. Bright lights are also used to brighten construction sites that are near by brightening the night sky. Instead of being pitch dark like in the mountains, the sky has a purplish tint, even in the middle of night and stars are rarely visible. The audience for my chime would be for people who use light which would be almost everyone. I want the audience to realize their excess usage of light even when it is not needed and I hope that they realize the beauty that they are missing out on. On my chime, I put stars inside a plastic light bulb to represent the beauty that people can see without the excess use of lights. I also put sparkling beads to represent the sparkling stars as well.
